About Us

Inverness Florida – Located on the Nature Coast of Florida is the private Inverness Golf and Country Club, located south of the City of Inverness Florida off U.S. Highway 41 in Citrus County. Inverness was established in 1868 and called Tompkinsville after the original settler Alf Tompkins (Uncle Alf). A year after Uncle Alf founded Tompkinsville it was sold to a firm in Jacksonville, who on the inspiration of an expatriate Scotsman renamed it Inverness.

The Inverness Golf and Country Club maintain a small roster and a no tee times policy. Members, men, and women, can tee up anytime they desire except when there is organized play. This consists of women’s day on Tuesday mornings, men’s day on Wednesday mornings, a monthly couples tournament, 9 and Dine, night golf, etc. Please see our monthly calendar for other scheduled events.

Although Inverness Golf and Country Club is a private golf course, it does allow public play with a scheduled tee time. There is also an excellent Banquet Facility used for many Inverness events including family reunions, wedding receptions social gatherings, and business meetings. From formal sit-down occasions to casual buffets our in-house chef will work with you to prepare the right food for your special function.

The Inverness golf course is an 18-hole fairly level layout that is rated 69.4 from the white tees and 71.3 from the reds. It is nestled in a setting of large oak trees, pines, palms, and a few cedars that can get hookers and slicers into trouble. Water hazards come into play only on two holes on the front side, eight and nine, and two on the back fourteen and fifteen, although errant shots can find lateral hazards on several other holes.

Members can own their riding carts and commute from home to the course to play and back by paying an annual trail fee. Cart storage is available, at a small fee, for members who live too far from the course to utilize cart travel. Daily rental and leased carts are available and members can walk as they play if they desire.

In addition to the 18-hole golf course, the club offers a clubhouse with restaurant and lounge, pro shop, swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, driving range, and practice putting green.

Special temporary memberships are available to non-resident winter visitors, one-month minimum, five months maximum, a four-month summer membership program for local residents.
